「（〜と）結婚する」にはmarry　；　get married (to) などの表現がありますが、英文ニュースでは、とくに見出しなどの場合、tie the knotという表現がよく使われます。tieは「結ぶ、縛る」、knotは「結び目」の意味で、２本の紐（糸）で結び目を作る様子から「結ばれる」、「結婚する」の意味となりました。
